Dr. Patel has been an expert in the transition to patient centered cancer care (PCCC) that can transform delivery of cancer care to reduce overall cost, improve patient experience, and improve outcomes in cancer care is to shift the focus of healthcare delivery away from volume and toward value. Patient-centered cancer care holds the promise of addressing these issues. He has been frequently cited in journals and has been on multiple national committees to lead transition to patient centered cancer care. He has been asked to attend national meetings including ones with CMMI and CMS administrators and Secretary of HHS to express his experience and opinion on important components of the PCCC. Transition to PCCC at the national level would reduce total cost of care by 20-30% and improve outcomes. He is in the process of partnering with a private equity group to expand PCCC to other large practices providing cancer care in the state of South Carolina and then bring it to national level.
