Precision Medicine
Advancing the paradigm shift to genomic-guided treatments
Value-based care, the paradigm shifts to genomic-guided treatments, increasing patient volumes, and workforce challenges are driving the need to provide community oncologists with innovative processes and tools to facilitate effective care delivery. Dr. Patel has started multiple research initiatives that addresses these critical issues while analyzing current gaps in utilizing precision medicine in community oncology.By enabling access, education, and support for science-led precision care solutions in disadvantaged communities, Dr. Patel is developing a deeper understanding of complex genomic landscapes in historically underrepresented populations and ensure diversity, inclusion, and access in cancer research. He designed REPRESENT study. The REPRESENT study will generate one of the most comprehensive repositories of clinical-genomic information available as a result of the range of molecular profiling techniques, clinical data, and diverse racial backgrounds involved. Alsoby incorporating information on social determinants of health into our dataset, we have the opportunity to better understand the role of social support, education, housing, and other socioeconomic factors in contributing to cancer outcomes.
